Bachelor of Elementary Education

This study focused on the encountered difficulties and coping mechanisms of adult elementary learners in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) in the Lapu-Lapu City Division, highlighting their educational experiences and challenges in continuing their studies. The study aimed to determine the difficulties encountered by adult elementary learners and identify the coping mechanisms they used to overcome these challenges while studying in ALS. A qualitative research design utilizing thematic content analysis was employed through semi-structured interviews with selected adult elementary learners in ALS. The findings revealed that the participants experienced financial difficulties, limited learning resources, and conflicts between personal responsibilities and academic tasks that affected their learning process. Despite these difficulties, the learners demonstrated resilience through effective time management, self-motivation, family support, and positive attitudes toward education, which enabled them to continue pursuing their studies. The study concluded that ALS serves as an important educational opportunity for adult learners by providing flexible learning experiences that support their educational goals despite existing challenges. It is recommended that ALS implementers strengthen academic support, provide sufficient learning materials, and develop programs that address the personal and educational needs of adult learners.

Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Science

This study focused on the professional and instructional needs of beginning science teachers in selected very large secondary schools in Lapu-Lapu City. It aimed to identify the demographic profile, instructional needs, personal and professional support needs, coping strategies, and proposed recommendations for beginning science teachers. The study used a descriptive research method with survey questionnaires administered to Teacher I science teachers with zero to three years of teaching experience. The findings revealed that most respondents were young female teachers with limited teaching experience who demonstrated very high needs in lesson planning, teaching strategies, laboratory resource utilization, mentoring, and classroom management. The results also showed that beginning science teachers experienced challenges related to workload, stress management, and balancing professional and personal responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of institutional support and continuous professional development. The study concluded that beginning science teachers require strong mentoring programs, adequate instructional resources, and sustained professional support to improve teaching effectiveness and well-being. It is recommended that schools and policymakers strengthen mentoring systems, provide continuous training opportunities, and enhance support programs for beginning science teachers.

Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English

This study explored the oral assessment strategies used by 30 ESL teachers in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City during the school year 2025-2026. Researchers used a convergent mixed-methods design based on Communicative Language Teaching and Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory. Data were gathered using custom surveys, interviews and direct observations. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The results showed that teachers adapted communicative and interactive methods of assessment to the level of proficiency of the students. Teachers concentrated on reading-aloud and question-and-answer activities for beginners. Intermediate learners were assessed by guided conversations and sharing of experiences, while advanced learners were assessed by discussions and complex problem-solving activities. The study recommends that educational institutions continue to support collaborative instructional and assessment practices that are student-centered.

Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Science

This study examined how Grade 7 and 8 teachers in five national high schools in Lapu-Lapu City perceived the Revised K-10 Science Curriculum. Using both quantitative and qualitative methods, the research assessed teachers’ views and actions, the challenges they face, and how they cope with them. Data were analyzed using weighted means and standard deviations, and a thematic analysis. The findings show that most teachers have a positive view of the curriculum, especially its role in encouraging critical thinking and student engagement. Teachers highlighted strategies such as the 5A Model, adjusting instruction based on data, and using different approaches for different students. However, they also reported challenges, including curriculum misalignment, limited time, lack of specialized training, gaps in student readiness, and insufficient resources and infrastructure. To tackle these challenges, teachers used their time wisely, made effective use of resources, adjusted materials to their students' needs, worked together to improve their skills, planned and reviewed lessons to support students, and paid attention to their own growth and well- being. Overall, the Revised K-10 MATATAG framework helps make science education more efficient, but some systemic issues remain. The study suggests that curriculum designers should provide more focused, subject-specific training to help teachers create learner-centered classrooms.

Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English

Linguistic landscape refers to the language used in public spaces, particularly signs, billboards, and posters. This study explored the signage of public schools in Lapu- Lapu City. This study looked into the signs' language patterns (phrases, grammar, tone, etc.), what the signage reflects about the nature of the school, the identities that the school wants to declare, the possible reason why a particular font, choice of color, logo, symbols, etc. are used; the communicative functions they entail; and the advertising appeals they belong to. The researchers made transmittal letters signed by the School's Dean and each principal to carry on with the study. After permission was sought, the researchers captured images of the various signs and public displays in buildings, classrooms, and common areas around the school to analyze and describe the signs in detail. The findings presented the multiple classifications of signs, the interconnection of visual and linguistic elements in conveying the message, the reflection of the school's nature through the signs, the different functions associated with signage, and the advertising appeals, such as rational and emotional appeals. This study offers a comprehensive analysis of linguistic landscapes in school signage as it explores the languages and modes used and what they reveal about the school and the people. It is recommended that schools consider replacing torn and old signs with new ones, especially those that are no longer relevant, timely, or effective in providing the intended message.
