The Philippines faces challenges in reading comprehension, as evidenced by its frequent placement among the bottom 10 countries in international assessments. In the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) during 2022, the Philippines ranked 76th out of 81 nations, representing a modest improvement over its 2018 position. Nearly 91% of Filipino 10-year-olds have difficulty with reading comprehension, according to recent studies. This study investigated how non-tutors implemented the Phil- IRI program in their classrooms and the strategies they used to support struggling readers. A mixed-methods approach was undertaken, merging qualitative interviews with teachers about their experiences and quantitative analysis of student reading outcomes through statistical techniques. Results indicate that non-tutor instructors in the Cordova District expressed highly positive professional perceptions of Phil-IRI implementation, reflected by an Average Weighted Mean of 3.35 (Strongly Agree). To assist frustrated readers at their schools, activities primarily involved one-on-one or peer tutoring. The findings suggest that, to reduce student anxiety and encourage regular home-school communication, teachers can apply engaging, information-driven strategies such as gamifying daily exercises with word games and context-clue challenges. Moreover, school administrators and parents are encouraged to actively support, address the needs of, and guide frustrated learners.

Feedback is a crucial element in teaching mentoring, shaping professional growth, instructional practices and collaborative learning between mentors and mentees. This study explored the experiences, perspectives and challenges related to feedback among elementary teachers during classroom observation and mentoring sessions. Employing a qualitative research design, the study focused on the lived experiences of teachers. 20 participants were purposely selected, including 5 mentors and 15 mentees. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions and analyzed thematically to identify patterns in experiences, perceptions and challenges. Findings indicate that feedback significantly enhances teaching strategies, promotes reflective practice, and facilitates effective adjustment between mentors and mentees. Nevertheless, challenges such as differing expectations, communication barriers and timing constraints were observed. Based on the findings, recommendations are proposed to strengthen feedback processes and support more effective mentoring practices in elementary education.

Utilizing a descriptive-evaluative research design, the study examined the current learning materials used by ALS learners to determine its level of skills development and to know the perception of learners towards the usefulness and relevance of these learning materials. Data were gathered from ALS learners using a weighted mean and standard deviation (SD) analysis to profile their perceptions and actual skill attainment. The findings revealed that the learning materials yielded an overall average mean of 2.72 (SD = 0.99) for Literacy Skills , which is interpreted as Upper Intermediate . Similarly, Livelihood Skills recorded an overall mean of 2.66 (SD = 0.96) , also falling within the Upper Intermediate range. Regarding the learners' perceptions, the materials garnered an overall mean of 2.82 (SD = 0.92) for Usefulness and 2.74 (SD = 0.93) for Relevance , both interpreted as Effective . The results suggest that while the learning materials successfully facilitates a transition toward complex knowledge application, the variance indicated by the standard deviations highlights a need for more localized and differentiated support. These findings underscore the importance of aligning learning resources with the specific vocational and contextual needs of ALS learners to ensure sustained engagement and higher levels of skill mastery.

Directed drawing is a structured approach where students followed a step-by-step instruction from the teacher to create an artwork. This study investigated the effectiveness of directed drawing in teaching Grade 6 students at Alegria Elementary School to create cartoon characters. The researchers assessed the impact of directed drawing on students' art performance, their attitudes toward the method, and the challenges they encountered. Over a one-week lesson, students were introduced to key techniques, including line structures, shapes, and shading, which they applied to create their cartoon characters. A survey questionnaire measured improvements in skills like line structure, color schemes, and design, as well as students’ perceptions of the method’s usefulness and ease of use. The study also acknowledged that art was often not given as much time in the curriculum as it should have been, with directed drawing offering students more time to engage in the creative process. The results showed significant gains in creativity, attention to detail, confidence, and positive attitudes toward the method. Based on these findings, it was recommended that the school continue incorporating directed drawing, offer professional development for teachers, and create a supportive environment for artistic growth.

Eskrima, also known as Arnis, is the national martial arts and sports of the Philippines that uses sticks, knives, and various weapons. This study assessed the Eskrima Training Program in Marigondon Elementary School during the 2024–2025 school year to evaluate its effectiveness and propose recommendations for improvement. It measures the extent to which the program enhances students' Arnis skills, identifies the benefits they receive, explores challenges encountered, and investigates the solutions they employ. Using an evaluative research design, the research examines students' perceptions of the program regarding skills and physical and social skills development. Findings indicate that the Eskrima Training Program in Marigondon Elementary School is highly effective in improving students' physical and social skills, having the highest effectiveness rate, and enhancing students' Arnis skills. The training program also encountered problems, which were solved through the resilience of the Eskrimadors, leading to the training program's benefits. The study is highly effective in enhancing students' physical coordination, discipline, and engagement in physical education, proposing recommendations for program enhancement and focusing on skills and physical development.
