Abstract

This study explored the role of subtitles in Korean movies and their effect on Korean language acquisition among Bachelor of Secondary Education, Major in English students during the Academic year 2023-2024 at Cordova Public College. The study applied the phenomenological approach to understand the lived experiences, perceptions, and subjective perspectives of 10 students regarding the role of subtitles in Korean movies on Korean language acquisition. The study explored how subtitles serve as a tool for language acquisition, providing insights into vocabulary acquisition, listening comprehension, and cultural understanding. The research employed a qualitative approach, engaging students through interviews to gather their experiences and perceptions. The findings suggested that subtitles, when used alongside other language- learning resources, can significantly enhance the acquisition of the Korean language. This study contributed to the field by highlighting the importance of multimedia in language education and offering practical implications for integrating subtitles into language learning strategies.
